What is Switched On?

We offer independent, unbiased, free support and information to all on how to improve their energy efficiency, switch energy providers and provide access to fuel payment support for those on welfare rights. We are a kind, dedicated, Energy Awareness trained team from the Environment Centre, Swansea who aim to provide a high level of service.

  • Centre for Alternative Technology

    The Centre for Alternative Technology website has a huge amount of detailed information relating to renewable energy sources for your home. There’s information on things such as:

    • Solar Panels

    • Heat Pumps

    • Solar Water Heating

  • ECO Scheme - Ofgem

    The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme in Great Britain to help reduce carbon emissions and tackle fuel poverty.

    The scheme began in April 2013, and over time it has been amended. The latest policy is ECO4 are you are likely eligible if:

    • You are a Homeowner, Landlord or a Private Tenant

    • You receive income-related benefits

    • You have Electric Storage Heaters

  • Warm Wales - Healthy Homes, Healthy People

    Healthy Homes, Healthy People is funded by Wales & West Utilities and is delivered in partnership with Community Energy Plus and National Energy Action.

    Warm Wales works in conjunction with a number of agencies and organisations including Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Care & Repair, local authorities and a range of national and local charities.

  • Energy Saving Trust

    Energy Saving Trust is an independent organisation – working to address the climate emergency.

    A respected and trusted voice on energy efficiency and clean energy solutions, they continue to work towards a smart, decarbonised, decentralised energy system.

  • Nest Scheme

    Nest installs free boilers, central heating systems and insulation to help households on low incomes to keep warm and reduce the cost of their energy bills.

    They have eligibility criteria and can perform an assessment on your property to get the right improvements for you.

  • City Energy

    This scheme is known as the Local Authority Eligibility Flexibility (LA Flex), with the eligibility criteria defined by your Local Authority. There are two main categories of eligibility for LA Flex:

    • Fuel poor households, especially those on low income and not in receipt of ECO eligible benefits; and

    • Low-income households that are vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home

  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme

    The government is providing grants to encourage property owners to install low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). These grants can help property owners overcome the upfront cost of low carbon heating technologies.

    The scheme is open to domestic and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales. It runs from 2022 to 2025.

    You can get:

    • £7,500 towards an air source heat pump

    • £7,500 towards a ground source heat pump (including water source heat pumps and those on shared ground loops)

    • £5,000 towards a biomass boiler
