HELP OUT WHEN YOU MOVE OUT 2026
Moving out of your student house this summer?
Help Out When You Move Out (HOWYMO) is back for 2026 and bigger than ever. Now in its third year, the scheme has expanded to cover all student houses across Brynmill, making it easier than ever for students to donate unwanted items and reduce waste when moving out.
Instead of sending useful household goods, food, and everyday essentials to landfill, you can help support local charities, community groups, and residents in need across Swansea.
Every donation helps create a cleaner, greener Brynmill while supporting people in our local community.
Help out when you move out is back for its 2nd year! Last year we collected over half a ton of reusable items from just three streets, this year were expanding and want to collect even more!
What’s the Plan?
Throughout the student move-out period, volunteers will be collecting donations from student houses across Brynmill.
Simply place your unwanted, reusable items in the clear donation bags delivered to your property and leave them safely on your doorstep for collection.
Our volunteers collect donations daily and sort them for redistribution to local good causes, helping to reduce waste and support those who need it most.
This year, our fantastic volunteer team has already delivered collection bags to nearly 5,000 student rooms across Brynmill, ensuring more students than ever can take part in the scheme.
We welcome clean, reusable household items including:
Kitchen equipment and utensils
Crockery, mugs and cutlery
Pots and pans
Unopened dry and canned food
Bedding and linens
Small household items
Cleaning products
Stationery and study supplies
Other good-quality reusable items
Please ensure all donations are clean, safe and suitable for reuse.

Brynmill Food Bank - Pat’s Food Bank
Brynmill Food Bank is run by local Brynmill legend Pat who has been a key part of the Brynmill community all her life. This year Pat celebrated 45 years of service at Brynmill Community Centre having been there since it first opened its doors in 1979. Pat took on various roles at the Community Centre including including treasurer, booking officer and organising the Brynmill Playscheme as well as arraging outings for numerous children, such as trips to Barry Butlins, swimming sessions at Pontardawe swimming baths, visits to Penscynor Wildlife park and other exciting excursions. In April Pat stood down from her role at Brynmill Community Centre to focus on running her Food Bank. Each week Pat collects donations of money for groceries and contributions of food which can be accessed by Brynmill Residents in need. The remaining items are taken to St. Thomas Church where it is distributed to local families and individuals in need across Swansea. You can find Pat at Pantygwydr Church on a Tuesday, pop in for a chat and a cuppa.
UWTSD Community Cupboard
