Carbon Footprinting and Carbon Action Planning

Turning your priorities into Climate Action

Understand Your Environmental Impact — and Find Practical Ways to Reduce It

We understand that climate change isn’t always at the top of your community group’s agenda. That’s why our approach to carbon footprinting and carbon action planning starts with the issues that matter most to you.

We help community groups and organisations understand their carbon footprint, energy use and environmental impact. Our assessments are free, practical and tailored to your activities, helping you identify changes that can reduce both costs and emissions.

Whether you're just getting started or looking for evidence to support funding applications, we can help.

Our approach is supportive and collaborative, helping organisations identify actions that work for them.

Free Carbon Footprint Assessment

We offer organisations a free carbon footprint assessment to help them understand the environmental impact of their activities.

The assessment looks at emissions across different areas of your work, including operational activities and spending. For many organisations, the most surprising insight is where emissions actually come from.

Most carbon emissions are often linked to general spending — not energy use.

This means the biggest opportunities for impact are often found in how money is spent, such as purchasing, travel, food or services.

For many organisations, the outcome isn’t just about reducing emissions. It’s also about identifying ways to reduce costs while lowering their carbon footprint at the same time.

How Carbon Action Planning has helped our groups

Reducing Car Journeys to Exist Skate Park

At Exist Skatepark, one of the biggest issues wasn’t climate change — it was parking. Large numbers of visitors arriving by car and the limited parking space around the site were causing problems.

Working with the group, we explored ways to reduce the number of car journeys to the skatepark. Solutions included encouraging public transport, cycling and lift sharing. We held special sessions at the skate park, encouraging young people to sign up for the heavily discounted bus passes instead of having to rely on cars to get to the skate park.

These changes deliver multiple benefits:

  • Reduced carbon emissions

  • Less pressure on local parking

  • Fewer cars in the local neighbourhood

Building Long-Term Low-Carbon Habits with ILA

Food has been the main focus of our work with ILA, where members regularly share meals together as part of their activities.

While the group already has relatively low emissions in many areas, their diet was identified as a key opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint. Together, we explored how small changes to everyday food choices could make a meaningful difference.

The group has been experimenting with more plant-based meals, introducing new recipes and discussing the environmental impact of different foods. These changes not only help reduce emissions but also support healthier and more affordable meals.

Building confidence with plant-based cooking and food choices now helps establish habits that will keep emissions lower in the long term.

“Food is something everyone can relate to – small changes to what we eat can have a big impact on our carbon footprint.”

Carbon Action That Works for Communities

Every community group is different. By starting with their priorities, carbon footprinting becomes a practical tool that helps organisations tackle real challenges while taking meaningful climate action.
