The Swansea Green Fayre: A Potted History
Thanks to Gareth Williams we have been able to delve a little into the Green Fayre's history. Did you know, for example, that the first Green Fayre was held in 1983?
It was organised by the pioneering Swansea Green Group and later by Swansea Friends of The Earth.
It began in St James' church and in 1989 moved to the Patti Pavilion. When the Environment Centre opened in 1995 it was held at the Centre and organised by the Centre's staff and volunteers. The event has been organised by Hannah at the Environment Centre since 2001. In this year the fayre returned to the Patti, as the Centre was not large enough to hold all the stalls!
When in 2005 the Patti was closed for refurbishment, the Centre was very pleased to be able to accept the kind offer from the newly opened National Waterfront Museum to host the fayre. We are very pleased to confirm that we have again been able to secure the use of this prestigious venue.
